I stopped by The Picture People at the mall to get pricing info, and since they weren’t busy (and were trying to reel us in), they did a mini-shoot.  They also gave us a free 8×10 of the cutie.  They did some very quick cute pics, including nakie ones…and Wes proceeded to pee on the floor.  *sigh*

Here’s the picture I got in an 8×10.  We are currently printer-less, so I had to take a picture of the picture instead of scanning.

And he’s figured out how to get water from his sippy cup.  🙂

The Grown-Ups

I guess I should mention what the adults in the household are up to, though I know most just want to read about Wes. 🙂

Valerie:  Since I’m ‘retired’ (as Steve says), my days consist of: keeping Wes and Quinn happy, cleaning the house a bit, running random errands, and keeping the fridge/freezer stocked.   It is very weird to not be employed.  I’ve worked consistently since I was 16 (minus a few months during undergrad) and to not have ‘my own’ money is an adjustment.  Buying Steve’s birthday/Father’s Day gifts with money he worked for- strange!  Now that Wes is a happier child, I’m enjoying being home more and I’ve stopped telling Steve that I’m going to get a job.  Though, I have looked into a part-time/weekend jobs (so Steve could watch Wes) but haven’t applied.  Thanks to a new friend, Rachel, I’ve also started to look into selling Scentsy products (http://www.scentsy.net/en-us/index.aspx)  they are awesome and it would be something I can do as much or as little as I wanted.  Not sure if people would buy from me, but I could try!

Steve (written by Valerie)-  Seems to be enjoying his new department and thankfully has been in town all but a couple days this year.  He stays busy during his days and is currently trying to finish up a project in a ‘combined cycle’ power plant (yeah, I have no clue what that is).  After our vacation in July, he’ll be going through a Welding Inspector certification course.  He will have to drive up by the airport, about 45 min away, but at the end of 5 days of class, he’ll spend his Saturday taking a long test.  It’s something to put on the resume and something that will hopefully make him even more valuable to his current company.  He says to add that he has been getting a lot of free food in his new department (and free soda) and it’s making him fat…again.  This week it was Iranian food. Overall, it has been a great start to a new position.

6 month well-visit!

He won’t be 6 months until Thursday, but today was his 6m doctor’s appointment.

Stats:
Weight-  19lb 9oz    85th percentile
Height- 27 1/4″   (this is wrong, he wouldn’t stretch out)  75th percentile
Head- 50th percentile

So he’s following his own curve and is proportionate.  Dr. R said he’s very healthy and ahead in his milestones- especially his attempts to crawl.

I HATED the nurses we had, I think the one that weighed him was a newbie because she came in with another nurse (I’ll call her P) for shots.  P gave Wes his shots and not only was she rough giving him the liquid vaccine, she then held his legs down and made me hold his arms down.  We didn’t have to do that last time- he was SCREAMING.  She also made him bleed a lot and she told the younger nurse that it happens and that she hit a vein and you can’t watch out for all veins.  P said to just put a bandaid on it and it would be fine.  Too bad she didn’t put the bandaid on right and I got blood on my shirt when I picked Wes up.  Then neither the nurses nor I remembered to get the vaccine card filled out so the receptionist had to page the younger nurse to fill it out.

We don’t go back until the end of September, but I’m calling the week before to find out who Dr. R’s floor nurse is going to be and if it’s P, I’m going to change his appointment.

I was thankful Wes slept on the way home, woke up to eat once we got here, and is now sleeping again (in his crib!).

And pictures:  1.  Playing in the waiting area, 2.  Looking at his beefy self in the mirror, 3. One of his war wounds

We had a giftcard and coupon, so we decided to go to Buca di Beppo on Country Club Plaza (the Plaza).  It’s a gorgeous day!  Wes did great while we ate and he seemed to love looking at all the portraits they had on the walls.  I also remembered to bring a mesh feeder with a few frozen grapes in it for him to chew on.

The fountain (KC is the City of Fountains, or something like that) is  Neptune, the horses had water coming out their noses.  Wes was not impressed.  I forgot to put sunblock on him, so the extent of our walk was from the parking garage to Buca, to the fountain right next to Buca, and back to the garage.  So not even 10 minutes outside, at least I remembered his SPF 50+ hat.

lovey love.

1.  Wes’s new lovey.  Hoping it will help him sleep in his own bed.
2.  Had to get this onesie just because Steve HATES reality tv.

3.  What happens when I don’t clean out Wes’s oldclothes.  Steve shoves him into whatever he finds.  The onesie wouldn’t snap and the shorts were 3-6m and TIGHT.  I changed him…really need to buy him new jammies.

Father’s Day and other stuff.

Steve’s first Father’s Day was yesterday and it started with Wes waking up at 5:45am. 🙂 I made breakfast and Steve opened his cards and gift. We got him a new casual watch since his died and was pretty bad looking.

I had to take Quinn to meet a lady in the neighborhood, who pet sits, and her dog. Steve took Wes with him to do ‘manly’ things like go to the hardware store for nails and Petsmart in search of a new doggy door flap.

Late in the afternoon we went to Sam’s Club for a few things and then it was time to get the grouchy gus home for a nap. We had plans to grill out until Steve realized we were out of propane. The day ended with Wes sleeping 8pm until 230am in his crib and then until 630am with us.

In other news, Wes’s 1st tooth finally came in! The 2 front bottom teeth have been hiding just under the skin for a month, and the left one is now uncovered and just above the surface. He will barely let me touch it, not sure about when I’ll get a picture.

The last 2 pictures above are the outfit I got at Gymboree Friday when Wes and I went shopping at Town Center with Amy.  It was the weekend of the sidewalk sale and I couldn’t pass up airplanes.  It’s going to be an outfit for his 1 year/Christmas pics.  The hat was just cute and is a 12-18m size so it will fit this winter.

edited to add:  Wes has started putting his arms up or out for me to grab him.  He does it when he’s on the floor, in the jumperoo, or if Steve is holding him.  It’s the cutest thing ever to me.  He did it and ‘said’ mama yesterday when he wanted out of his jumperoo…but I know it was a coincidence and he’s not really saying mama or associating it with me yet.

1. Happy Birthday to Steve!
2. A year ago today we heard Wes’s heartbeat for the first time!

And because I can’t get enough of him, here’s a video of Wes trying to go after Quinn. She was ‘hiding’ under his jumperoo. This is after Wes tried to put her foot in his mouth! I think Wes figured since Quinn goes after his, he can go after her’s.
